Thailand is still one of the cheapest places in the world to travel well. A backpacker can live on ฿800–1,000 a day (about $24–$30). That covers a dorm bed, street food, local transport, a couple of drinks and the odd temple. Want a private room with air-conditioning, Grab rides and a massage every other day? Plan on ฿1,800–2,300. A comfortable trip with a hotel pool and a tour most days runs ฿3,000 and up.

Below is every number you need, grouped the way you will spend it. All prices are 2026 figures in Thai baht with dollars at about ฿33.5 = $1.

Questions people ask

How much money do I need for 2 weeks in Thailand?

A backpacker needs about ฿14,000–17,500 (roughly $420–520) for two weeks, plus flights. With private rooms and more tours, plan on ฿30,000 or more.

Is $50 a day enough in Thailand?

Yes. $50 is about ฿1,675, which buys a private room with AC in most of the country, street food plus some restaurant meals, Grab rides and a paid activity on most days. On the islands it is tighter.

Is Thailand cheaper than Bali?

They cost about the same. Hostelz puts the average backpacker day at $36 in Thailand and $34 in Indonesia in October 2026. Thailand's transport between regions is easier and often cheaper per kilometre.

What is the most expensive part of a Thailand trip?

After flights, it is accommodation on the islands and paid tours. A single Phi Phi boat trip or two dives can cost as much as two or three normal days.

Should I bring dollars or baht?

Bring a fee-free card and a little cash. Every Thai ATM charges ฿220 per withdrawal, so take out the maximum each time or exchange cash at a counter in town rather than at the airport.
